The Volendam
So my new home is a ship- who would have ever thought it? I try not to think about it too much bc it was not somewhere I ever wanted to be…and it would be easy to panic when thinking that I’m out in the middle of the ocean stuck on a boat when I hate confined spaces and have a fear of drowning. But FEAR is just a paper wall. This is my year to say sayonara to all the fears that held me back from living life to the fullest! So…I just moved to my cabin. It’s actually larger than I thought- small and built for one person but we are trying to get some more storage space. The ship itself is beautiful as it was just renovated. It is such a different life on board a ship- I feel like I have stepped back in time a bit. There are so many officer rankings and unspoken rules that I am learning day by day. We have to dress according to the rules of the night- and always have to be “passenger friendly” which basically means I never look like myself…lol. Its very conservative (until we step onstage). However I must say I love seeing our guys dressed nice all the time…J It’s a rare thing for me to see that these days…
I’m learning a lot about environmental and emergency safety….gotta get ready for those coast guard drills…it’s pretty nervewracking actually. I’m a good student- but if the boat was sinking I would probably have a heart attack…but look mom- I have my life jacket and warm clothing to fight hypothermia so don’t you worry about me!
